Our Third Summer at the Alameda County Fair

From June 19 to July 12, the Peritik family set up our booth at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton. This was our third summer at the fair, and this year we brought a screen with the World Cup playing, which turned our corner of the fairgrounds into a gathering spot between the matches.

What the fair had going on

The Alameda County Fair has run in Pleasanton since 1912, out at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in the East Bay. This year it opened on Juneteenth and ran through July 12, open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 11 p.m., with the summer concert series, carnival rides, live horse racing, and more than a hundred food vendors. It is the kind of long family day where people come for the music and the rides and end up wandering the vendor rows. That is where we come in.

What we brought

If you have shopped with us before, you spotted us in a second. The tall wall of natural stone bracelets went up first, the way it always does, and across from it stood the shelves of hand-woven straw hats, with jewelry and small treasures laid out between them. Hats and stone bracelets are what people come back for, and both were out in full.

The World Cup at the booth

The surprise this year was the World Cup. We set up a screen at the booth with the sound on, and the matches pulled people right in. A goal would draw a small crowd, and soon strangers were talking soccer and trying on hats between plays. This year, the games did the introducing for us.

Three years in

Three summers at the same fair means faces we recognize now. Some of the people who stopped by this year have been finding us at this booth since our first, and watching a fair turn into regulars is our favorite part of coming back.

We are Peritik, a family-run shop bringing natural stone jewelry, hand-woven hats, and a booth of small treasures to Northern California fairs and markets since 2017. If you found us at the fair this year, thank you. If you missed us, see where the booth goes up next.
